About Us

I founded Monfils General Contracting many years ago after apprenticing and working with my father for over fifteen years. After several years working with a local contractor, my father and I felt we could better serve the people of Ottawa directly through our own company.

This company continues the traditions of high quality workmanship initiated by my father over thirty-five years ago.

My father, Manuel Monfils, comes from a large hardworking French Canadian background, where many of his family members were tradesmen. At 18 years of age, he started woodworking in the back shed at his mother's house making candlestick holders and stools and quickly moved on to cedar chests, blankets boxes, beds, cabinets, etc. In the 70's, he worked as a cabinetmaker at the Heritage Mill in Almonte. In the late 70's and early 80's he started doing heritage restoration and home renovations throughout Ottawa area. His attention to detail and quality workmanship ultimately led to many successful and award winning projects.

From a very young age, I remember my brother and I working alongside my father, a hammer never far out of reach. As I got older, it became clear that I had a natural talent (as did my father) for detailed hand work. This attention to detail, initially steered me towards tool and dye, working as a mechanical technician dealing with precision aeronautical parts, etc. But, as I was still in school studying, I continued to gain experience in the construction industry and my talents soon became apparent in that field.

Today, we enjoy a reputation for superior detailed craftsmanship, a commitment to excellence and customer service. We have nurtured long lasting relationships with clients, sub-trades and other professionals in the industry.
